Daily Mail Journalists test out Tiny House Kit

15/1/2014

Tiny House KitDaily Mail Journalist Tom Rawstorne building a Tiny House
Over the last couple of years I have received a vast amount of emails from people wanting to take on the challenge of building a Tiny House. Most people seem to think its as easy as building a shed on a caravan chassis but worry about putting three tons of timber on a frame designed to take just over a ton. Others are wondering how the structure will not twist and over time pull apart.
To make life easier for everyone I have designed a Tiny House Kit. The first of which is being test driven without the chassis by one of The Daily Mail's Journalists Tom Rawstorne.
He has been given 5 days to construct the kit, make it feel like home inside and spend the night in it.
As you can see, the base is down
, the walls up, windows in and the roof on in just 2 days! I'm not sure if Tom has hidden carpentry skills, a team of labourers hidden away or its just the fact that the kit was quite straight forward to put together. Over the next few days he will be decorating and dressing the interior for the final photo shoot and the grand reveal will be in The Daily Mail next Saturday.

Congratulations on getting some main-stream coverage Mark! Let's hope they see the wisdom in it and don't pigeon-hole it in a negative light or anything. I'm living in Ireland now so I can't get the paper so could you send me a link to the article when its published online, cheers

Thanks for your comment Arty, I am sure they verdict will be all good. I have spoken to Tom on the phone again today and all seems to be going well with the build. The article will be on the Daily Mail website and I will put a link on here, my Facebook page and Twitter account.

Has the article showing the finished interior layout and decoration been published yet? I'm more than a little curious to see how the finished interior looks.

Yes Tom, considering it was built by a Journalist not a builder I think he did a fantastic job. Catch up with the results at: http://www.shedworking.co.uk/2014/01/how-to-build-tiny-house.html

Surprisingly spacious inside. I have a friend who spends his summers living in a small yacht in the UK but ends up renting accommodation through the winter months. A tiny house would be the ideal solution for him. I'll point him in this direction.
